Automating the work behind expenses and events

spARK Labs by ARK Invest gives founders and entrepreneurs the insights, intelligence and resources to help new ideas take form. This project started with two everyday operations jobs, expense reports and event requests, and turned their manual handoffs into reusable workflows in Claude Cowork that the team runs and can extend itself.

With altr, spARK Labs packaged the process into Claude Cowork using MCP connectors and custom skills. The connectors give Claude the tools and files it needs. The skill holds the steps, context and guardrails. Team members start either workflow with a slash (/) command.

Expense Reports

A folder of monthly receipt PDFs becomes a completed Excel report in the team's existing template. Claude Cowork reads the scans folder, extracts the details and fills the report, instead of someone opening each PDF and typing line by line.

Event Request

An event request starts as a completed interest form and ends as a review-ready PDF routed through email. Claude Cowork drafts the document from the form details and prepares the request for review, replacing the manual copy into a PDF and the hand-coordinated next step.

The result is a repeatable way for the team to launch and run these workflows inside Claude Cowork. The video shows an event request triggered and carried through to the finished output.
